Ingredient Review

The first ingredient is pea flour. Pea flour is made from roasted peas which have been processed into a powder. It's naturally rich in protein and dietary fiber.

The second ingredient is potato flour. Potato flour is a gluten-free carbohydrate source made from whole potatoes. Because the entire potato (including skin) is used, potato flour does provide a notable amount of vitamins and minerals.

The third ingredient is salmon. Although salmon is an excellent protein and omega-3 fatty acid source, raw salmon contains more than 60% moisture. After cooking, the relative meat contribution of salmon is dramatically reduced. Therefore, it's important to ensure that other meat sources are included within the first few ingredients to ensure the product derives most of its protein from meat.

The fourth ingredient is tapioca flour. Tapioca flour is a gluten-free carbohydrate extracted from cassava roots. Carbohydrates are a necessary component in producing kibble and tapioca is an excellent choice in this regard.

The fifth ingredient is pumpkin. Pumpkin is an excellent carbohydrate source, rich in dietary fiber and various minerals. It's also rich in beta-carotene, an antioxidant which is a precursor to vitamin A.

Next we have salmon oil. Salmon oil is an outstanding source of omega-3 fatty acids, an important part of a dog diet.

The next ingredient is tomato. Tomatoes are naturally rich in various vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. You may have heard that tomatoes are toxic to dogs, but these claims are about the tomato plant, not the actual tomato.

Then we have cranberry. Cranberries are rich in dietary fiber and provide a modest amount of vitamins such as vitamin C and minerals such as manganese.

Moving on, we have soybean oil. Soybean oil is an omega-6 fatty acid source. Unlike other oils (flax, canola, etc), soybean oil does not provide omega-3 fatty acids; However, the balancing omega-3 fatty acids are most likely supplied by another oil or fat source in the product.

Moving on with this review, we have apple. Apples are high in dietary fiber and provide a modest amount of vitamins and minerals.

The next ingredient in this review is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes provide a notable amount of dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. In addition, sweet potatoes are gluten free and therefore commonly found in grain free and gluten free products.
