Adult Dog Biscuits With Chicken Meal

Ingredient Review

The first ingredient is pearled barley. Pearled barley is barley with the outer husk and bran layers removed. Similar to regular barley, pearled barley provides carbohydrates and dietary fiber. Pearled barley is however not as nutritious as regular whole grain barley.

The second ingredient is chicken meal. Chicken meal is produced by cooking chicken using a process called rendering. The rendering process dramatically reduces the natural moisture of chicken and thereby results in a highly condensed protein source.

The third ingredient is brown rice. Brown rice is naturally rich in fiber and various minerals including manganese, phosphorus, and magnesium. Relative to other grains, brown rice is easy to digest.

The fourth ingredient is wild rice. Wild rice is a gluten-free grain which supplies protein, dietary fiber, certain minerals, and B vitamins.

The fifth ingredient is rolled oats. Rolled oats are an excellent carbohydrate source with considerable nutrients in addition to dietary fiber. More specifically, oats are rich in B vitamins and various minerals including manganese.

Next we have cane molasses. Cane molasses is a less refined form of sugar, made from sugar cane. It's naturally rich in various minerals including magnesium, manganese, iron, calcium, and potassium.

Cane molasses is however considered a controversial ingredient because it can raise a dogs blood sugar level, as it can with humans.

The next ingredient is chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid). Chicken fat is typically collected while cooking chicken using a process called rendering. Chicken fat is a relatively high quality source of essential fatty acids. In particular, chicken fat is high in linoleic acid, an important omega-6 fatty acid.

Then we have whole flaxseed. Whole flaxseeds are an outstanding source of omega-3 fatty acids and dietary fiber. They also provide a notable amount of protein, B vitamins, and various minerals.

Moving on, we have natural flavor. Natural flavor enhances the flavor of the product. The difference between natural and artificial flavoring is that natural flavoring starts from a plant or animal whereas artificial flavoring is entirely man-made.
