Merrick French Country Cafe Review
Review of Merrick French Country Cafe
The first ingredient is duck. Although duck is an excellent animal based protein source, raw duck contains more than 60% moisture. After cooking, the relative meat contribution of duck is dramatically reduced. Therefore, it's important to ensure that other meat sources are included within the first few ingredients to ensure the product derives most of its protein from meat.
The second ingredient is turkey. Turkey is another excellent protein source. As with other raw meats, turkey contains a substantial amount of moisture and therefore the relative meat contribution of turkey is dramatically reduced after cooking.
The third ingredient is chicken. Chicken is another outstanding protein source, naturally rich in all of the essential amino acids required by dogs.
The fourth ingredient is oatmeal. Oatmeal is simply coarsely ground oats and therefore contains the entire oat grain. As with regular oats, oatmeal is rich in dietary fiber, B vitamins, and various minerals.
The fifth ingredient is dried potato. Dried potatoes are commonly used in pet food as a gluten-free carbohydrate source. In addition to carbohydrates, dried potatoes also supply protein and various vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Powdered cellulose is produced from minuscule pieces of wood pulp and plant fibers. Other than its fiber content, powdered cellulose lacks any nutritional contribution.
Garlic in very small quantities can be an acceptable addition, however, garlic can also be toxic. Therefore many pet owners choose to completely avoid garlic.
Caramel color is a concentrated form of caramel, a natural food colorant. Caramel color has been linked to cancer in laboratory animals. Since our pets do not care about food color, caramel color is an unnecessary addition with possible health risks.
