NutriSource Grain Free Biscuits Review
Review of NutriSource Grain Free Biscuits
The first ingredient is whitefish. Although whitefish is an excellent protein and fat source, raw whitefish contains more than 60% moisture. After cooking, the relative meat contribution of whitefish is dramatically reduced. Therefore, it's important to ensure that other meat sources are included within the first few ingredients to ensure the product derives most of its protein from meat.
The second ingredient is pea. Peas are starchy members of the legume family. Other than carbohydrates, peas are notably high in plant based protein and various vitamins and minerals.
The third ingredient is potato flour. Potato flour is a gluten-free carbohydrate source made from whole potatoes. Because the entire potato (including skin) is used, potato flour does provide a notable amount of vitamins and minerals.
The fourth ingredient is pea flour. Pea flour is made from roasted peas which have been processed into a powder. It's naturally rich in protein and dietary fiber.
The fifth ingredient is chickpea. Chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans) are an excellent carbohydrate source, naturally rich in dietary fiber and protein.
Next we have tapioca. Tapioca is a gluten-free starch extracted from cassava roots. Starch is a necessary component in producing kibble and tapioca is an excellent choice in this regard.
The next ingredient is dried tomato pomace. Dried tomato pomace is a by-product of tomato manufacturing. It's considered a controversial ingredient because many people believe it is an inexpensive low quality filler. However, tomato pomace provides a notable amount of dietary fiber, B vitamins, Lycopene, and vitamin A. Although it is a very inexpensive ingredient, it is not nutritionally empty.
Then we have chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols). Chicken fat is typically collected while cooking chicken using a process called rendering. Chicken fat is a relatively high quality source of essential fatty acids. In particular, chicken fat is high in linoleic acid, an important omega-6 fatty acid.
Moving on, we have pumpkin. Pumpkin is an excellent carbohydrate source, rich in dietary fiber and various minerals. It's also rich in beta-carotene, an antioxidant which is a precursor to vitamin A.
Moving on with this review, we have cranberry. Cranberries are rich in dietary fiber and provide a modest amount of vitamins such as vitamin C and minerals such as manganese.
The next ingredient in this review is carrot. Carrots are naturally rich in many vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Carrots are also an excellent source of dietary fiber.
Our next ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes provide a notable amount of dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. In addition, sweet potatoes are gluten free and therefore commonly found in grain free and gluten free products.
apple is the next ingredient in this recipe. Apples are high in dietary fiber and provide a modest amount of vitamins and minerals.
Next on the list is celery. Although celery contains roughly 95% moisture, it's still an excellent source of dietary fiber. Celery also provides a modest amount of vitamins and minerals.
