Quest Cat Food Issues Recall Due to Potential Thiamine Deficiency
Go Raw LLC, a pet food company based in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, is voluntarily recalling a single lot of its Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe Freeze-Dried Nuggets due to potentially low levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1). Thiamine is an essential nutrient for cats, and prolonged consumption of diets deficient in thiamine may place cats at risk for deficiency.
The recall affects the following product:
Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe Freeze-Dried Nuggets – 10 oz. bags (UPC 6-91730-18103-1, Lot Code: C25288, Best Buy Date: 10/15/2027)
The affected product was distributed nationwide through retail stores in the following U.S. states: Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Michigan, California, Texas, and Illinois. The product is sold in beige, zip-lock 10 oz. packages with a purple stripe. The UPC, lot code, and Best Buy date are printed on the front of the bag. This product is freeze-dried.
Cats fed diets low in thiamine over time may develop a thiamine deficiency. Early symptoms can include decreased appetite, excessive salivation, vomiting, failure to grow, and weight loss. In more advanced cases, neurological signs may occur, such as ventroflexion (bending of the neck toward the floor), mental dullness, vision changes, uncoordinated or wobbly walking, circling, falling, and seizures. Pet owners whose cats are exhibiting any of these symptoms should contact their veterinarian immediately. When identified and treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible.
The issue was identified after the company received a report of illness potentially associated with the product. Product from the affected lot was submitted for testing by the treating veterinarian, and results indicated thiamine levels below those required for a complete and balanced feline diet. Go Raw LLC conducted additional testing and determined that the lot may not meet thiamine requirements. To date, one confirmed illness has been reported, and the affected cat has since recovered following veterinary care. The recall is limited to this single lot, and the company has implemented corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Consumers are advised to stop feeding the recalled product to their cats immediately. The product should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. For additional information, consumers may contact Go Raw LLC at cs@gorawllc.com or by phone at 801-432-7478, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
