Raw Bistro Pet Fare Recalls Frozen Beef Dog Food Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

Raw Bistro Pet Fare, a pet food company based in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, is voluntarily recalling two products of its frozen beef dog food due to possible contamination with Salmonella. The recall affects the following products, both with a “Best By” date of August 27, 2026, and lot number 239:
- Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Frozen – 3 lb bags (UPC 858833002247)
- Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Bulk, Frozen – 18 lb cases (UPC 858833002629)
The products were distributed direct to consumer and through select distributors between September 1 and September 17, 2025, in California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota. The items are sold frozen in sealed packaging, with the lot number and “Best By” date printed near the bottom on the back of the bag or box.
Salmonella infections can affect both pets and humans. Pets may show signs such as lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, or abdominal pain. Even pets without symptoms can carry the bacteria and spread it to other animals or people. Pet owners noticing these symptoms should consult their veterinarian.
Humans can become infected by handling contaminated pet products, especially if hands or exposed surfaces are not properly washed. Symptoms in people include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. In rare cases, infection can lead to more serious complications, such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, or urinary tract issues. Anyone who develops symptoms after handling the recalled products should contact their healthcare provider.
The potential contamination was identified after an FDA-collected sample from a distributor tested positive for Salmonella. No illnesses in pets or humans have been reported to date. Raw Bistro Pet Fare is voluntarily recalling the affected products and working with the FDA to investigate the source of contamination.
Consumers are advised not to feed the recalled products to pets or any other animals, and not to sell or donate them. Products should be returned to the place of purchase for a refund or securely destroyed to prevent access by children, pets, or wildlife. Pet food bowls, scoops, utensils, storage containers, and any surfaces that came into contact with the recalled products should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Proper handwashing after handling pet food is strongly recommended.
