Obedience Training Huskies

When I take my 1 year old Husky for a walk, he is fine for about 1 hour or so then he just goes nuts jumping on me and trying to mouth me. This lasts for 30 seconds or so then he is fine. Any ideas what is going on?

Hi, it sounds like your dog wants to have some play-time. A long walk is often a great way to train a dog at the same time as giving your dog some fun. Start the walk with some play – watch out for the area that your dog normally acts up – is it the same place each time? Watch for signs that your dog is about to start playing up. Below we have provided some tips on how to stop your dog from jumping up and mouthing you during the walk. Hope it helps.

Put some treats in your pocket just before you go out for the walk. When he starts to play up get on of the treats and hold it level with your dog’s nose. This will divert his attention from playing up – as soon as he stops jumping up and starts to behave give him the treat and some praise. After a while start to hold the treat level with his nose as he starts to misbehave but rather than giving him the treat straight away ask him to ‘sit’ so he has to earn the treat and the reward and praise. This should solve your problem.
