Acana Pet Food Recall History

Has Acana Ever Been Recalled?

To date, Acana has never been recalled.

Acana has been available for more than two decades. The company that owns Acana (Champion Petfoods) was founded in 1975. Champion Petfoods also owns the very popular Orijen brand of pet food.

Acana and Orijen are often regarded as two of the best dry dog food brands in the industry.

The primary difference between Acana and Orijen is the protein content of the foods. Orijen contains more protein and therefore is much more expensive. Acana is much more affordable and still provides primarily meat-based dog and cat food recipes.

The company is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) with an additional office in Auburn, Kentucky.

Where Is Acana Made?

Acana pet foods are made in the United States and Canada. The facilities that make Acana and Orijen dog food and cat food are owned by Champion Petfoods. These two facilities are exclusively used for Acana and Orijen.

The first (and original) facility used to manufacture Acana is named NorthStar Kitchens. It is located in Alberta, Canada and exclusively used for Acana and Orijen.

Recently, Champion Petfoods finished the construction of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Kentucky, USA. This facility is named DogStar Kitchens and is also used exclusively for Acana and Orijen pet foods.

Is Acana Pet Food Safe?

Acana is one of the safest pet food brands currently available. Not only has Acana never been recalled, but Orijen (owned by the same company) also shares an excellent safety record. Orijen has only been recalled once in Australia.

Unlike many other premium brands of pet food, Champion Petfoods is one of the few companies that chooses to retains 100% control over the entire manufacturing process. They own both facilities that produce Acana and Orijen pet foods. Whats more, they do not produce pet food for any other brand, company, or private label.

The exclusive production of Acana and Orijen within the NorthStar and Dogstar Kitchens is an excellent attribute. By retaining full control, the likelihood of contamination and manufacturing errors become significantly lower.

When you consider the company's age (founded in 1975) and recall history, there isn't much to critic. Therefore, we have no reason to question the safety of Acana dog foods or cat foods.
